In Jerusalem, governed by the might of Rome and complicated by power-hungry religious leaders, the apostles had been jailed, publicly flogged, and told renounce this new ‘Way’ they had begun living. Racial and class-system arguments had threatened the church in its infancy and now, with the public stoning of Stephen, they began to scatter. But when good news travels, good things happen! Acts chapter 8 gives us a pattern to stay free, carry joy and speak life even on our worst days.
